THE CUTTING

The cutting means <to cut > the moves of a cow.
In the reality of the work in ranches, it was a question of separating a calf from the rest of the herd in order to look after it, to vaccinate it or another similar thing.

Nowadays, if American riding breaks up into differents events, the cutting is the main discipline.
It is the same as formula 1 of the equestrian sport.
With a very quiet horse which gets gently into the herd, as soon as the rider drops the reins the horse cuts the moves of the cow and anticipates its the movements.

Between powerful starts, quick stops and fast turns, the horse must keep the calf away from the herd during two minutes.
As soon as the rider raises the reins again, the horse stops and finds instantaneously its quiet.
Of course the saddles are made so that it is necessary to hold ourself on it otherwise it would be impossible to stay on the horse.
